Anthropology 1593 The science of mankind in the widest sense, coined from Greek: anthropos “human being” + –logos “study of.”

Biological Anthropology

Biological Anthropology includes the study of human evolution and human biological variation. The course at Otago covers evolutionary and comparative anatomy of the human body (what makes it unique among primates), and why it varies among populations. There is an emphasis on variation as illustrated by the human skeleton and the application of the principles of human variation to the analysis of human skeletal remains excavated from archaelogical sites and in forensic cases. Courses in Biological Anthropology are taught in collaboration with the Department of Anatomy and Structural Biology and the Department of Oral Sciences and Orthodontics.
