Law Library

Richardson BuildingThe Robert Stout Law Library is an outstanding resource for the Faculty’s students and academic staff. It contains over 80,000 volumes, including primary legal materials from New Zealand, Australia, the UK, Canada, the USA, and India. The library also subscribes to over 70,000 e-journals and databases including WestLaw, Lexis.com, HeinOnline, LegalTrac, and NZ resources from Brookers, CCH and LexisNexis NZ. Key law e-book collections include Making of Modern Law, UK Treatises and historical works in HeinOnline Legal classics and many others.

Study space occupies three floors and includes a computer lab and wireless Internet connections. Law Library staff provide one-to-one research consultation, database tutorials, and tours, to ensure students are able to accomplish their research effectively and efficiently. Technology & Study Space

Students at the Faculty of Law are provided with the necessary technology environment to enable them to focus on their studies. Students are assigned email and network accounts, which allow them to access the Otago network from on or off campus.

The Faculty of Law does its best to ensure that post-graduate students are allocated separate, secure study space in the Post-Graduate suite on the top floor of the Student Union building, which is a two-minute walk from the Law Library.

International students

The University’s International Student Office serves as a resource for international students. Its services include assistance regarding immigration matters and support in adjusting to life in New Zealand. Housing

The University of Otago maintains one residential college dedicated solely to post-graduate students – Abbey College. Abbey College offers New Zealand and international postgraduates fully catered accommodation and accommodates both single students and a limited number of couples.
