Associate Professor Michael Robertson
My first university training was in philosophy, which I studied in Canada (York University and University of Toronto) and England (Oxford University). After obtaining an LL.B. at Osgoode Hall (York University) I practiced for while at the Toronto firm of Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt before obtaining an LL.M. at the London School of Economics and joining the Law Faculty at Otago.
TeachingCurrently I teach courses in Jurisprudence, Legal Theory, Law and Society, and Landlord and Tenant
Research InterestsMy main area of research is Jurisprudence. For the past decade I have been particularly interested in the contributions to legal theory of Stanley Fish (who visited the Otago Law Faculty in 2008). I also research in the areas of property theory and the modern business corporation (from a law and society perspective). Recently I have started to work in the area of law and popular culture, especially law and film.
In 2007 I established the Otago Branch of the New Zealand Society for Legal and Social Philosophy, and am currently the chairman of the branch. Contact DetailsTel 03 479 8846
