Originally a hotel/motel complex, Abbey College features many warm and inviting social, leisure and study spaces.
Key features include:
In addition residents at Abbey College enjoy the following amenities and services:
West Block Common Room
The West Block Common Room compliments the Common Room in the Main Block. It has a satellite TV installation that takes in free-to-air services from many countries and in different languages. This Room also includes a small and well-used kitchen for residents who wish to bake and cook for friends, birthdays and special events.
The Study Room is multi-functional. It is sometimes used for meetings, otherwise it becomes another option as a quiet space for study.
Access to the internet is available through the University’s network. All bedrooms have hardwired access to this network. The University's wireless system is also available in many parts of the College. The University is currently underway with a large Future Network Project to upgrade the network and expand the wireless network.
Please be aware that there may be times when connection to the University network can be slow or unavailable due to maintenance and upgrades.
In addition to the above, fibre optic cable is available at each of the bedrooms of Abbey College, should you wish to have your own personal internet connection. This can be arranged by contacting an external Internet Service Provider and placing an order for service. Any costs associated with such a connection are the responsibility of the individual resident.
The fully equipped laundry is accessible at all times by residents and is free of charge.
Sauna, spa pool and small indoor swimming pool
To help with your relaxation, the College offers a small indoor facility housing a solar-heated swimming pool (please note that it is not large enough for serious exercise!), spa pool and sauna.
All communal facilities at Abbey College have wheelchair access. There are three studio rooms with full wheelchair mobility and other facilities for students with disabilities.
A car is not essential at Abbey College because the University is only a five-minute walk away. Should you wish to have a car, however, there is access to secure outdoor parking on site at a cost of $13.50 per week.
Cycling is a popular way to get around campus and town, and to enjoy the outdoors. Secure bicycle storage protects bikes from inclement weather and is provided free of charge.
Abbey College is committed to providing a safe and secure environment for its residents who find the swipe card entry and exit system through our security gates easy to manage.
To ensure a healthy and welcoming environment for all residents and visitors, Abbey College buildings and grounds are designated as smoke-free.
You are welcome to invite visitors to the College and, with prior notice, they can join you for a meal at a very reasonable fee.
