International Students Accommodation Application
The University of Otago is renowned for its residential campus environment. The Accommodation Office can assist you to find the type of accommodation that best suits your needs. Your first decision will be whether or not to apply University Managed Accommodation. The following information will help you in this decision. The earlier you apply the better your chance of obtaining your first choice. Students who will be under 18 years when they begin their course should apply for Aquinas College, please refer to the requirements for Residential College Applications or Homestay accommodation.
University Flats
Flat Start, Study abroad and exchange students will have their application sent directly to the University Flats in the first instance.
Every flat is unique - some are older houses that have been renovated and others are newer, purpose built normally in a complex containing 5 - 9 flats. All flats are of a good standard and well maintained. Each flat is furnished, including a basic kitchen set up. All bedrooms have a double bed, mattress, desk, chair and drawers. Bedding packages can be hired from us, however we recommend that you bring a sleeping bag for your first few nights and your last night of your stay. There are a few one, two & three bedroom flats which are available for postgraduate students and families.
You will be required to sign a fixed term tenancy agreement which is binding under New Zealand law.

Residential Colleges
In some circumstances undergraduate residential colleges do consider single semester students if they have places available. If you have any questions about this please email the Accommodation Office: accommodation@otago.ac.nz.
The Application Process
For single semester students requiring accommodation, the key dates for applying are:
- Second Semester 2011: 18 April 2011 - 23 May 2011
- First Semester 2012: 1 August 2011 - 1 December 2011
An offer of place will include a contract together with a request for some further information and initial payment if required.
Applications for Postgraduate Accommodation in 2012 will be received from 1 August 2011.
Complete an online application:
You will be sent an acknowledgement email once you have completed your online application. This will enable you to be able to log in with your application number and password to check the status of your application.
