Committee for the Advancement of Learning and Teaching (CALT)
The Committee for the Advancement of Learning and Teaching is a committee of Senate. Its purpose is to support and promote excellence in learning and teaching across the University.
Terms of Reference
- To initiate and develop policies and guidelines on teaching, learning and assessment.
- To recognise, support and promote excellence and innovative developments in learning and teaching including distance teaching, flexible learning and the effective use of information technologies, and to disburse, administer and report on University funds used for these purposes.
- To work with other agencies to disseminate information on innovative practice in teaching, learning and assessment.
- To encourage the development of the international dimensions of learning and teaching.
- To act as an Advisory Group to the Higher Education Development Centre, by way of the regular reports received from its Head and other matters raised for discussion and guidance.
- To foster and facilitate research into university learning and teaching.
- To encourage applications for externally funded grants for the development and support of excellence in teaching and learning.
