Congratulations to Ag@Otago researcher, Dr Azam Ali, and Professor Karl Lyons being awarded Health Research Council funding for a "no drill, no fill" project aiming to develop a biometric system that could potentially trigger remineralisation and regrowth of dental tissues.

Combining biomaterials like collagen with bioceramics, consisting largely of calcium phosphate, was initially used to fill holes in the way fillings were carried out. Dr Ali believed his team had seen good preliminary outcomes with regenerating soft tissue so were confident there was potential to grow teeth.
