With your help, students like Sophie expand their horizons, make new connections, forge lifetime friendships, and mature and grow personally.
Here is Sophie's story about her time at an American partner university…
“In Semester 2 of 2015 I attended the University of Texas at Austin. While there I was able to complete my Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition. The university offered courses that were equivalent to those offered at Otago and I added a paper in Nutritional Epidemiology which I felt would be helpful when I started the thesis part of my Masters in Dietetics. Academically I also had the chance to pick up new skills which may not have been possible during my undergraduate studies at home.
The chance to study in another country, as well as live with people from all over the world has had a real impact on my life. Being able to compare the two educational systems, social norms, and general ways of life has changed how I look at situations. I feel that I have grown and come to see not only what is great about New Zealand, but also what the rest of the world is doing. I appreciate different teaching styles, ways of thought and especially types of food.
Help a student like Sophie study in another country.
I believe that this exchange has helped make me a much more confident, and open person. Stepping out of my comfort zone was a big deal for me but I do not regret my decision to go abroad at all.
I am so grateful that I was accepted for a student exchange scholarship. Without it, the learning adventures I had would not have been possible. I have made some amazing lifelong friends and I would not change the experience for anything”.
