Alumni Undergraduate Scholarship Fund

For many young people hoping to better themselves, a University of Otago scholarship is their only chance to overcome the financial barriers to attending University

There is no better investment in New Zealand’s future than in today’s talented young people. By giving bright young people a chance to learn from some of the country’s best teachers, receiving a world-class university education, we can help to ensure these students will go on to make significant contributions to society.

Every year hundreds of gifted year 13 students apply for scholarships at the University of Otago. For some, this is their only chance to overcome the hardship barriers associated with attending university. But many more miss out.

Together we can secure a brighter future for New Zealand by enabling more students to reach their full potential.

Some of our current and previous scholarship recipients have expressed their gratitude below. Your donation could be truly life changing.

This scholarship has meant I can live my dream of studying Medicine at Otago and becoming a doctor. I am so grateful to be given this start in my professional life. I hope one day I can give back and help others like me reach their dreams, full potential and lifelong goals.”

My scholarship allowed me to stay in a residential college this year, which kept me out of the infamous Dunedin student flats for a year. Most importantly though, I have been provided with an ideal environment to study, which I have thrived in and had, at least what I considered to be, a very good year in terms of academia.

I was really surprised and excited to be awarded the University of Otago Alumni Appeal Scholarship. This took a lot of financial stress off my first year at university. I used my scholarship to help pay for my hall of residence, Hayward College. Being a resident at Hayward has provided me with a comfortable, stress free environment.
