Dr Fuata’i received a Distinguished Fellowship from the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners (the College) in recognition of his significant commitment to Primary Health care. He has been a GP in South Auckland for over 20 years, where he has made an outstanding contribution to General Practice and Pasifika health. He is seen as the pioneer of Community-based Team approach to primary health care for vulnerable communities. Dr Fuata’i was the first Pasifika GP teacher on the College’s training programme. He has led efforts to attract more medical graduates into General Practice and for Pasifika Doctors to have greater involvement in developing Pacific Primary Care Services.
