Research
Overview
Asian Studies is a recognised area of Research Excellence at the University of Otago. It is a grouping of scholars across three Divisions: Humanities, Commerce, and Health Sciences.
It conducts individual and collaborative projects which are both discipline-based and interdisciplinary and which converge in the study of Asia. The general goal of our research is to increase knowledge and understanding of Asia.
General Objectives
- To develop a greater understanding of the environment, politics, culture, languages and international relations of Asia;
- To foster research both within the University of Otago and to other Universities and into the wider community;
- To enhance research activity in the field of Asian Studies;
- To develop the teaching of Asian Studies, particularly in the University of Otago.
