The Bachelor of Consumer and Applied Sciences is a degree that attracts people interested in making a difference to everyday life. There are five specialist areas: Clothing and Textile Sciences, Community and Family Studies, Consumer Food Science, Design Studies, and Human Nutrition which can be studied as first majors and second majors.

There is also a wide range of other options available as second majors, allowing you to equip your passion by combining disciplines that is a perfect fit for your chosen career.

Bring your career or post graduate study closer, faster with a double major. To learn more about study towards a career that crosses degree boundaries check out the CApSc list of first and selected second major options.

The Consumer and Applied Sciences programme was introduced in the mid 1980s but CApSc sits in the footstep of a much older school and can trace its origins back to the early 1900s which makes us one of the University of Otago's founding schools.

Our Alumni have been making a difference in New Zealand communities for almost 100 years. To read about the achievements of graduates of today and some of those who pioneered the way go to the Study CApSc page.
