Clinical Research in the Christchurch Heart Institute

Nicholls research centre research participants

Research Focus

The main focus for clinical projects have the common theme of investigating neurohumoral aspects of common cardiovascular diseases including:

  • myocardial infarction
  • hypertension
  • atrial fibrillation and
  • heart failure

Participation in multicentre trials of experimental treatments for these conditions is also part of our programme.

A recent high profile publication from this team was the result of a successful pilot study of the use of serial measurement of plasma cardiac peptides in titrating intensity of treatment in heart failure (Lancet 2000;355:1126-1130).
