What is Christchurch like?

Christchurch is the largest city in the the South Island of New Zealand and is commonly called the Gateway to the South. It offers a temperate climate and knows all four seasons. Christchurch is nestled between the Southern Alps and the Pacific Ocean and has a population approaching 400,000 people. The city is quite spread out but good roading and minimal traffic congestion means you go from one side of the city to the other in less than 30 minutes. With an international award winning City Council and what is considered the best drinking water in the country Christchurch is known for its attractiveness and is called The Garden City - the City that Shines.

The central city, where UOC is located, is easily accessible and has plenty of free and affordable parking. There are many shops and a vibrant nightlife as well as respect for the medical profession and the hospital, of which UOC is a part, a mainstay and landmark within Christchurch. UOC is surrounded by the Botanical Gardens and Hagley Park, a huge area where a lot of sport is played in this truly proud city.
