The Study

This study extends the use of robust, proven methodology to create a New Zealand-wide paediatric bowel disease (IBD) repository.

It builds upon a comprehensive, ongoing study looking at the incidence of paediatric IBD that has been successfully piloted in the South Island over the last three years - recruiting more than 95% of children diagnosed with IBD.

This study will provide important epidemiological data pertaining to IBD amongst children and adolescents. The compilation of patient-reported outcomes, clinical and laboratory data will provide a population-based resource which will answer key clinical questions regarding the severity, course and impact of IBD on young people, their families and the health sector.

On-going and future studies

On-going follow-up of the established cohorts and on-going recruitment will enable further information to be derived, including aspects such as outcomes and impacts of disease in children.

Research Outcomes

Several publications have arisen from this are of research focus, with a number pending.
