UOC IT Update
Tuesday, 15 March
Possibly a helpful piece of info:
It appears that Up-To-Date is free to access through google because of the Christchurch earthquake.
I'm not sure how long this will last, but it might be helpful to complete any assignments or course requirements you have.

Access to Student Desktop
Students with an internet connection can now access the university's student desktop by using Microsoft's "Remote Desktop Connection" software (included in all versions of Windows from XP onwards).
The three server addresses you can connect to are:
- udts01.otago.ac.nz
- udts02.otago.ac.nz
- udts03.otago.ac.nz
Please be aware that performance / responsiveness may vary depending on how many people are using the servers at once. If you find it too slow, try connecting to one of the other servers.
Windows
From a Windows XP computer:
- click Start menu > Run, type in "mstsc", click [OK]
- enter the computer name (one of the three servers above)
- click [Connect]
- enter your student username & password (same as for logging into the normal student desktop computers)
- Important: when you've finished and want to log off, click Start menu > "Log off username" to exit. Do NOT click the [X] icon on the top yellow bar as this is not a complete log off.
Macintosh
- Apple Macintosh computers will need to install software which is available from http://www.microsoft.com/mac/remote-desktop-client
- Use similar steps as in the Windows instructions.
Printing
- The student printer is not available.
- You can retrieve the file using the Netstorage website & print it on your own printer.
For assistance using this remote desktop, contact the UOC Computer Helpdesk helpdesk.uoc@otago.ac.nz or phone: 3640538
Thursday, 3 March
Dear staff,
Understandably people would like to get remote access to their files and programs.
If people need urgent access please contact the helpdesk first (helpdesk.uoc@otago.ac.nz preferably or 03-3640538 ).
The UOC IT helpdesk is currently up and running from Lincoln University and we will try to do the best we can.
What they need to know is the following:
- Computer host name (eg. csm0??? or csmlap0???)
- Programs needed
- File locations (h-drive/username , or s-drive/??/??)
- University user name ( as in vande69p)
- Contact details
- Do you have a computer at home you can use on the Internet?
- What type of computer and operating system do you use (mac/ pc, mac os 9, windowsxp, windows7 32 bit, windows7 64 bit)
Kind regards
