Formerly the Christchurch Cardioendocrine Research Group (CCERG)

Christchurch Heart Institute leadersAt the Christchurch Heart Institute we are an internationally-renowned team of experts including cardiologists, geneticists, molecular biologists, biochemists and physiologists.

We are the only group in New Zealand working from the laboratory to the bedside and in the community developing improved diagnostic tests, better prediction of outcomes in cardiovascular conditions, and discovering and trialing new treatments.

Over the past 25 years we have made some ground-breaking discoveries.

One example of our world-leading work is the development of a blood test to diagnose and monitor heart failure. It saves the lives of hundreds of thousands of people, including New Zealanders, each year.

We are also a training ground for promising young doctors and scientists to work in heart disease research within New Zealand.

The Director of the CHI, Professor Mark Richards, holds the Heart Foundation of New Zealand Chair of Cardiovascular Studies.

We are made up of four research divisions
