Biofabrication of hybrid scaffolds for skeletal regenerative medicine

Additive Manufacturing (AM) and 3D Printing are shaping the future of Orthopaedic Surgery and Regenerative Medicine. We are seeking a motivated PhD candidate with a background in Bioengineering, Biomaterials and/or Tissue Engineering.

A four year fully funded PhD project is available immediately in the CReaTE Group (University of Otago Christchurch), funded by the New Zealand MedTech Centre of Research Excellence (CoRE).

Qualifications

Applicants should hold an Undergraduate and/or Masters degree in one of the following areas: Biomaterials & Tissue Engineering, Biofabrication/3D Printing, Bioengineering, Polymer Chemistry or other related biological sciences or engineering disciplines, and preferably should have an ‘A’ grade average (or equivalent GPA).

Funding arrangements

A $25,000 per annum stipend including fees (approx. $9,500) for the duration of the 4-year PhD degree.

Cartilage Tissue Engineering/Regenerative Medicine 

Two positions available

Skills

Undergraduate + Masters degree in cell/molecular biology and/or bioengineering with experience in in vitrocell culture, working with porous 3D scaffolds, biochemical assay techniques (e.g. PCR, DNA/ECM protein quantification), histo-/immunohisto-chemistry techniques and imaging.

Funding Arrangements

A $25,000 NZD per annum stipend will support the successful candidate for the duration of the 3-4 PhD degree. The successful candidate is expected to start as early as possible.

Requirement on Qualifications

All candidates with high motivation, enthusiasm, and independent thinking are welcome to apply. Preference is given to students with a strong research track record from any one of the fields: Bioengineering, Tissue Engineering, Cell/Molecular Biology, Biomaterials, Medicine/Medical Technology.
