Understanding Families with Mental Disorder Study
Does your family/whanau have members with mental disorder and/or neuropsychological developmental disorders?
Would you be willing to volunteer for a study conducted by the University of Otago in Christchurch?
The study will investigate genetics, cognitive functions and the impact of having a family member with mental and/or neuropsychological developmental disorder?
We are looking for people aged over 20 with a diagnosis of bipolar disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, major depression, eating disorder, and/or autism/Asperger’s syndrome and their relatives.
For the study goal it is vital that in addition to the affected family member one or more close relatives (parents, siblings, or children) are willing to participate.
To help us with this study
- Come for a one-off visit to our clinical research unit for approximately 4 hours.
- Complete questionnaires about your personality, family, and some personal experiences.
- Do computer tests to assess functions such as memory, the ability to recognise emotions and attention.
- Give a blood sample for DNA.
