Postgraduate Diploma in Health Sciences (PGDipHealSc) endorsed in Nursing - Primary Health Care

A Postgraduate Diploma comprising 120 points designed for registered nurses working in primary health care.

Requirements

Candidates for the PGDipHealSc (Nursing - Primary Health Care) must

  1. be a graduate or possess an appropriate health professional qualification requiring at least three years' full-time tertiary study
  2. be working in primary health care
  3. hold a current Practising Certificate

Structure of the Programme

i Two compulsory papers (60 points)
  • NURS 405 Health Assessment and Advanced Nursing Practice (30 points)
  • NURS 413 Nursing - Primary Health Care Rural /Urban (30 points)
ii Approved research methods paper(s) (30 points)
Normally :
  • NURS 415 Nursing Research Methods (30 points)
Other approved research methods papers include:
  • PSME 406 Research Methods : Mental Health (30 points)
    Taught via on-campus blocks in Christchurch via the Department of Psychological Medicine
  • PUBH 723 Survey Methods - taught on campus Christchurch (15 points) and
    PUBH 724 Introduction to Qualitative Research Methods - taught on campus Christchurch (15 points)
  • PHCY 506 Research Methods - distance taught via Dunedin School of Pharmacy (30 points)
  • HASC 417 Health Sciences Research Methods - distance taught via Wellington (30 points)
