This page is about the University of Otago, Christchurch contribution to the six-year University of Otago medical degree (MB ChB: Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery). Our medical students come to Christchurch for years 4–6 of their medical degree, after three years of training in Dunedin.

In the fourth and fifth year, the class is divided into 8 equal sized groups and each group rotates through eight four-week block modules. In sixth (or trainee intern) year, attachments range from 4 to 12 weeks in duration.

Throughout the years, a series of vertical modules are run. These are based on the important learning themes and are delivered during dedicated vertical module half days. They represent areas which are integral to most areas of medical practice and which cannot (and should not) be separated e.g. ethics
