Professor Dominik arrived at the beginning of 2002 to take
up the Headship of Classics, which he held until the end
of 2009. Previously he was Professor and Chair of Classics at
the University of Natal. He has
taught widely in Classics and the Humanities at a number of
other universities,
namely Texas
Tech University, University of Edinburgh, University
of Leeds, Federal University of Bahia, University of Cambridge
and
Monash University for periods ranging from one semester
to three years. He has also held Commonwealth
Fellowships in the
United Kingdom and Australia and Visiting Research Fellowships
at the University of Cambridge, University of Edinburgh and the University of Oxford
. Prof. Dominik has served as
Editor and Manager of Scholia (1992-2011) and as Co-editor of Latin Literature
for The Literary Encyclopedia (2005 -). His main
areas of research specialisation are Roman politicised literature,
especially of the imperial era; Roman rhetoric; the
classical tradition/reception; and lexicography.
