Auckland Information and Support Day for Postgraduate Students

Study support for postgraduate students

The study support day is open to all postgraduate students taking distance papers, plus Masters students and doctoral candidates residing in Auckland and surrounding areas. The day also provides the opportunity to meet and mingle with other students living in your area.

Support staff from Dunedin will be available at the Auckland Centre, 285 Queen Street during your mid-semester break to give presentations and take small clinics in areas of interest. Lunch is provided to participants.

Format of the study support day

There will be two strands through the day – presentations from the staff, and clinics for small groups.
While one of the staff is giving a presentation about a topic, the other two will be free to have 15-20 minute long clinics with a small number of people.
The clinics are for small groups of people to discuss a specific area of concern, so email us your suggestions for clinic topics.

10am     Getting the most from your supervisor (Claire)
11am     Referencing: Endnote and others (Paula)
12noon  LUNCH
1pm       Publishing during your PG studies (Vijay)
2-2.30    Final questions from participants. Wrap up.

Clinic Options

The clinics are for small groups of people to discuss a specific area of concern (max 5), so email your suggestions for clinic topics to karen.logan@otago.ac.nz
Some clinic options could be:

  • Managing academic writing
  • Library thesis information
  • Searching the databases
  • Presenting at conferences

We want to know your areas of concern, so the day can be tailored to suit. Please let us know us the topics you would like covered during the small group clinics.
