Overview
The Diploma in Sports Studies (DipSptSt) provides a basic grounding in general sports studies and can be undertaken by those entering the field or as a refresher course for teachers, coaches, and sports administrators.
This programme is designed for people who wish to undertake formal study through the audioconference study centres of the University. The purpose is to provide alternative access to university study for those who do not wish to or are unable to pursue study in the traditional manner.
The Diploma in Sports Studies (DipSptSt) is also available through Distance Learning.

Regulations for the Diploma in Sports Studies (DipSptSt)
1 Structure of the Programme
(a) The programme of study for the Diploma in Sports Studies is set down in the Programme Requirements below.
(b) A candidate shall not be permitted to enrol for more than six papers in any one year.
(c) A candidate who has qualified for and received either the Certificate in Fitness Management or the Certificate in Sports Studies may not proceed to the programme leading to the Diploma in Sports Studies.
2 Prerequisites and Corequisites
Every programme of study shall satisfy the requirements for prerequisites and corequisites which are set out in the Prescriptions.
3 Exemptions
(a) A candidate for the diploma with appropriate qualifications may be exempted from up to three Foundation Studies papers and one Advanced Studies paper.
(b) A candidate for the Certificate in Fitness Management with appropriate qualifications may be exempted from up to two Foundation Studies papers.
4 Withdrawal from the Diploma Programme
A candidate for the diploma who has gained credit for the six Foundation Studies papers and who elects not to proceed with Advanced Studies papers shall be awarded a Certificate in Sports Studies.
5 Variations
The Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Sciences) may in exceptional circumstances approve a course of study which does not conform to these regulations.
