Overview

With over a billion followers and a history covering some 1400 years, the religion of Islam and the cultures of the Muslim world together represent a very significant part of world civilization. The BA in Islamic Studies will equip you to understand Islam from a range of different perspectives. You will study the historical roots of the tradition, the primary religious scriptures of Islam and the theological, philosophical, legal, political and mystical traditions which are based upon them as well as the varied cultures of Islam in many different countries of the world.

Students wishing to major in Islamic Studies should consult the Department of Theology and Religion. The BA in Islamic Studies is contingent upon appropriate staff appointments in Islamic Studies and will not be available until such appointments are made.
