MANT 102 Business Environment
Management
This is a required paper for a major in Management. Its objective is to introduce students to the major external influences that impact on businesses and other organisations in New Zealand, and to the roles that managers play in responding to those influences.
Three major areas of influence are considered. First, the course introduces the law governing employment relations in New Zealand and the roles of the principal parties involved: employers, employees and unions. Second, New Zealand’s standard of living depends on its ability to trade successfully with the rest of the world. The course examines the processes of globalisation and the challenges of managing across diverse cultures. Third, the course introduces the competitive challenges faced by New Zealand enterprises in the world, and the analysis of competitive pressures within industries.
