Mission
The mission of the Centre for Research on National Identity is to:
- Identify the constituents of contemporary New Zealand identity
- Identify the processes and effects of identity-formation in New Zealand society, both historically and in the present
- Speculate on future exigencies and outcomes of these processes
- Disseminate the findings of research through publications and outreach activities.

The formal research programme of the Centre for Research on National Identity for 2008-2010 consists of seven designated research projects:
