Upcoming Events

The Centre runs a fortnightly Seminar Series aimed at stimulating discussion and debate on issues concerning sustainability. Seminars start at 4pm (unless advertised otherwise) and are held at the Centre for Innovation Seminar Room, corner St David and Castle Streets. We host a range of international and local speakers and presentations are followed by discussion.


Seminar topics are varied and include:

• climate change
• traditional ecological knowledge
• social-ecological resilience
• food
• agriculture
• environmental stewardship
• resource management
• conservation
• Mātauranga Māori

Seminars are held from 4-5pm at the Centre for Innovation Seminar room unless advertised otherwise:

Tuesday 29 July, 1-2pm Archway 2 Lecture Theatre - Jeanette Fitzsimons and Rosemary Penwarden present "Life after coal."

Thursday 31 July - Chris Jacobson - topic TBC

Thursday 14 August - Janet Stephenson presents "Getting over talking past each other: Defining energy behaviour."

Thursday 28 August - Wren Green presents "Sustainable development or 'business as usual'?"

Thursday 11 September - Lin Roberts presents "A better life with a smaller footprint? Understanding happiness, satisfiers and nature's contribution."

Thursday 25 September - Elizabeth Soal presents "Integrated water management and research for sustainable farming: Lessons from Canada" (tentative topic)

Thursday 9 October -  "Sustainable living: A community model." (Speakers TBC)

Thursday 23 October - Sara Walton presents on the research project "Lighting Vanuatu."
