Otago cyclist Andrew Nicholson has broken the NZ record for distance ridden in 24 hours. With a total of 776km ridden around the Mosgiel Velodrome, not only did Andrew break the current outdoor record of 691km, he also broke the indoor record of 720km. Previous record holder Eugene Collins was supporting Andrew via facebook throughout the event.

During preparations for his attempt, Andrew discovered that his friend Warren had recently been diagnosed with cancer, reinforcing his wish to support CTCR. "I would ride for people like Warren who deserved a longer go at life."

Many supporters pledged donations based on the number of laps completed. Any funds raised by Andrew's attempt are going to fund CTCR.

Andew's story was the focus of a piece in the Otago Daily Times Sport supplement on Friday 28th November.
