What is it about China? A very important relationship:

- Phil Ker - CEO of Otago Polytechnic

The discussion will take place on Tuesday 21st May, 12.15 - 1.30pm in the University's AV Studio, Owheo Building, 133 Union Street East. On his most recent visit to China last month, Prime Minister John Key, in a major public speech in Beijing, noted that the relationship between NZ and China had 'gone from strength to strength over recent years' and described it as 'a very important relationship for New Zealand'. But what are the benefits to New Zealand of this relationship - culturally, commercially, educationally and so on? What's in it for China? What is Dunedin gaining from its partnership with Shanghai? Why has the forthcoming visit of the Dalai Lama to New Zealand proved so controversial? How significant is it that China is one of the last remaining one-party Communist states, and what's the truth about its much-publicized human rights record?
Make sure you are part of this important conversation!
A Podcast will be available very soon for the recent lecture and panel on "Climate Change - Where are we now and what do we do next?" with Jonathan Boston, Dr Janet Stephenson, Professor Colin Campbell-Hunt, and Alec Dawson.
