Social life at Cumberland College

Cumby prides itself on having an extensive and varied social activities programme, which has something for everyone.

Floor events

Ice SkatingWhat better way to get to know the people on your floor than by doing something together? Dinners, movie nights, lazertag, pizza nights, going to see the capping show, secret admirer’s week and so on and so forth. The great thing about floor events is that you get to decide with the rest of the floor what you do - you are only limited by your imagination!

Inter-college competitions

2011 Rowing ChampsWant to help us retain our rugby dominance over Arana? How about helping us ensure we retain the Hayward/Cumby 'Elephant' trophy? Or the Cumberland/Unicol trophy? We regular face off against other colleges in a variety of events throughout the year.

Social events

St Patricks Day FunMini-golf and lazertag, quiz nights, the Scavenger Hunt of Doom, Cumby Fun Day, beach outings, trips to major sporting events - and much much more all year long!

Social sports

Cumby Women's Rugby TeamLike playing volleyball, rugby, soccer, cricket, netball etc but don't want to play competitively? Then sign up to one of the many Cumby social sports teams.

Formal dinners

Formal DinnerEvery few months we stick on our Sunday best and join together to celebrate by having a formal dinner. These are great occasions with fantastic food, drink and entertainment.

Theme dinners and hops

Cumby High School HopThese events seem to go hand in hand - theme dinner and hops (aka parties). Come dressed up as something beginning with C, grab your school uniform for the High School Hop or come along as your favourite cartoon character.

Annual ball

Cumby BallOne of the highlights of the calendar is the Annual Cumberland College Ball. Don your ball gown and get ready for a fantastic night.

Annual ski trip

Cumby Ski TripAre you a powder junkie or a complete ski novice? Never fear the Cumby Ski Trip can cater for every level. The perfect way to have fun in the snow with your college friend and experience Central Otago in the middle of winter.

Holiday fun

Camping at Trotters GorgeThe fun doesn't stop just because most people have gone for the holidays! Trips to Moeraki Boulders, movie outings, ice skating and lots more happen during these times.
