Freefall

Red leaves at Easter:
English trees wait for
the inevitable nor'wester

stand their last stand
yellow and red
Gibraltar against the bland

grasses and spaniards
where shed leaves at Easter
land, impaled like standards

flying by mischance
marking foreign seasons'
strange advance.
