Office workers who sit for extended periods at their desks may be risking their health.
Professor Barry Taylor, a member of EDOR, is undertaking research to establish healthier workplace practices.
Existing studies have indicated that sedentary behaviour may be a risk factor for type 2 diabetes, as well as some cancers, and cardiovascular problems.
Professor Taylor, who has used a standing desk himself for the past four years, is conducting a randomised control trial of physical activity on the effectiveness of meetings. Participants may be assigned to sit, stand or 'perch'.
