Two EDOR (Edgar Diabetes and Obesity Research Centre) researchers are involved in projects recently funded by the Health Research Council (HRC) Feasibility Study Award.

Dr Lisa Te Morenga's project, titled 'Validation of a dietary intake biomarker for free sugars intake', aims to develop an objective measure of sugar intake. Once this method has been shown to reliably predict sugar consumption in New Zealanders, Dr Te Morenga and her group will be able to examine the relationship between sugar and disease in subgroups of the population.

Dr Reremoana Theodore is part of a team investigating Māori and Western concepts of early childhood behaviours for evidence that intervention in early life leads to positive health outcomes in later life. The research programme, called Te Kura Mai i Tawhiti, is led by Dr Mihi Ratima.
