Susan Bell, Executive Assistant

Susan Bell has worked as Executive Assistant in the Department of Preventive and Social Medicine since 2002. She previously worked in a range of secretarial roles in the Department starting in 1987.

Susan provides executive support to the Head of Department and is responsible for a wide variety of Departmental administrative functions, including human resource administrative management and responsibility for day-to day-operations. She also oversees the administrative secretarial team.

Alison Crossan, Administrative Secretary

Alison CrossanAlison worked in the Department of Music for seven years before joining the Department of Preventive and Social Medicine in 2014. She provides administrative support for the Postgraduate Programmes in Public Health, PUBH undergraduate papers, Trainee Interns, 4th Year Public Health students, and general administrative support for the Department.

Brett Dailey, Business Manager (Secondment)

Brett Dailey has an extensive management background with 20 years of professional experience covering a broad range of management accounting, public accounting, risk management, corporate profitability, and information systems capacities.

Brett oversees the administration and financial management of the Department including its bulk funded budget and the Department's NZ$10 million external research and commercial budget.

Brett is a member of the Certified General Accountants Association of Canada, the Institute of Management Accountants, the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, and CPA Australia.

Glenda Paterson

Glenda Paterson has over 10 years' experience working at the University of Otago and was most recently the Finance Manager for the Department of Women's and Children's Health. In this capacity she assisted in the financial management of both the Section of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Section of Paediatrics and Child Health. 

Glenda is responsible for the administration of the Department's finances and assists the Head of Department with staff appointments.

Bronwyn Hughes, Finance Assistant

Bronwyn HughesBronwyn Hughes manages the core Departmental finances including budgeting and analysis, invoicing, purchases, reimbursements, and PCards. She is a key contact for researchers with questions regarding their project accounts. Bronwyn also provides financial assistance to the Centre for International Health and the Injury Prevention Research Unit.

Bronwyn brings a vast knowledge of University policies and procedures to the Department, having served as the University's PCard administrator for eight years prior to joining the Department of Preventive and Social Medicine.

Debbie Payne, Administrative Secretary

Debbie PayneDebbie Payne has worked for the Department of Preventive and Social Medicine in administrative support roles since 1999.

Her current role involves providing administrative support for the Postgraduate Certificate and Diploma in Public Health, and the Postgraduate Diploma in Health Science (endorsed in Health Management).

Nicola Wilson, Administration and Research Support Officer (currently on maternity leave)

Nicola WilsonNicola Wilson manages and coordinates resources and activities of the Department's administrative functions, ensuring efficient day-to-day operations. Nicola undertakes equipment monitoring, IT troubleshooting, property maintenance, security, space management, and health and safety.

She also works with the Business Manager to ensure efficient budget management of the Department's internally and externally funded project grants.

Nicola has held various administrative roles in the Department since 2009.
