Clinical Psychiatry

The Department has broad research interests in clinical psychiatry, including old-age psychiatry, use of evidence-based medicine approaches to identify best treatments for acute mania and Generalized Anxiety Disorder; assessment of clinical toxicity associated with synthetic cannabinoids; audit of ECT use in Otago; Bayesian analysis of suicide data, etc.

We have a number of planned and ongoing studies in patients with:

  • severe social anxiety disorder or generalized anxiety disorder
  • depression
  • chronic schizophrenia
  • adherence to medications based on HBM
  • dementia prevention
  • association of anxiety and dementia
  • children and adolescents with ADHD

as well as working with healthy volunteers.
