Educational Studies & Professional Practice
This department broadly includes:
- The 'education' courses and fields of study from the University of Otago Faculty of Education that contribute to teacher education programmes and other University degrees
- The courses and fields of study from the Dunedin College of Education associated with:
- Education studies
- Professional studies
- Early childhood education
The Head of Department has the support of a BA/Education Studies Coordinator and a Postgraduate Coordinator. The Department is the 'home' for lecturing staff, teaching fellows, professional practice fellows, post-doctoral fellows, research assistants, tutors and visiting academics.
The department offers undergraduate and postgraduate Education programmes in educational studies. It also offers Professional Practice programmes in which students are prepared for teaching in early childhood, primary and secondary education, as well as continuing education for teachers at the postgraduate level.
Academic staff are committed to undertaking research and they publish in national and international journals and books. The College of Education is privileged to have on its staff a number of renowned scholars who are leaders in their professional fields of educational research.
