Mau ki te Ako is a partnership between Ngāi Tahu rūnanga and Otago University's Education Support Services.
The Ministry of Education are funding support for provisionally certificated teachers, overseas trained teachers with provisional certification and mentor teachers. Mentors include tutor teachers, PCT Coordinators, SCTs, HODs and school leaders. This professional development is available for teachers in English medium schools, years 1-13 throughout Aotearoa/New Zealand.

Workshops

All workshops run 9am - 3pm and have no course cost.

Introductory Workshop - early term 1

Target audience:  Primary and Secondary PCTs and mentors new to our PLD

Content:  Key components of our PLD

                Quality Induction and mentoring programmes

                 Requirements for full certification

Introductory workshops - dates and enrolment

Primary PCT Workshops - 2 per year (Workshop 1 - term 1; Workshop 2 - term 3)

Target audience:  1st and 2nd year PCTs teaching students years 0-8, including new PCTs, and attendees at our 2016 PLD and introductory workshop 2017

Content: 

  • Workshop One content: spend time sharing resources/ ideas with others teaching the same class level, problem-solving the issues related to beginning teaching, checking up on your progress towards attaining full certification & streamlining documentation and updating on Education Council changes. Choose from the range of online and hard copy PLD resources provided by the facilitator to best meet your specific professional learning needs. Other content varies from location to location depending on group need and current issues at the time.
  • Workshop Two builds on Workshop 1. New PCTs are most welcome, and will have their needs met but the focus of this workshop will be determined by the needs and feedback from Workshop 1 and any educational issues that have arisen in the interim. Time is provided at the workshop to critique and add to your evidence portfolio.

Mentor Workshops

Target audience:  All primary and secondary mentors, secondary PCT coordinators, SCTs, HODS, school leaders etc., mentoring PCT/OTTs (including attendees at our PLD 2016 and Introductory Workshops 2017).

  • Workshop includes: learning related to the key components; sharing mentoring experiences, systems & documentation practices, updating on Education Council changes and group members problem-solving mentoring concerns and issues. Other content relates to building mentoring skills (such as observation & feedback, professional learning conversations) and varies from group to group depending on group needs.

ePCT Online PLD

For all primary & secondary PCTs and mentors. Choose when and where you undertake your PLD. Select modules from our interactive online ‘pathways” to create PLD that meets your needs. New modules are added throughout the year, in response to your suggestions.
