Master of Teaching (MTchg)

The University of Otago College of Education Master of Teaching has been specifically designed for in-service teachers. This programme provides teachers with opportunities to examine their personal theories of teaching and learning, and evaluate their teaching practices.

The MTchg is a 180 point programme, and the minimum completion time is two years of study. The first year, or equivalent in part-time study, comprises the same course as the PGDipTchg (120 points, including EDUC440 or EDUC423, and EDUC441), and the second year requires the student to complete a 60-point paper, EDUC590: Professional Practice Portfolio.

The admission requirement for the MTchg is a completed Bachelor's degree in any subject(s) appropriate to teaching, an equivalent teaching qualification, or professional and scholarly experience satisfactory to the College of Education. Students who have completed the PGDipTchg or equivalent may be admitted directly to the second year of the programme.
