Biography

I have been a teacher educator at the University of Otago, College of Education, Southland Campus since 2004. Prior to that I have been a tutor in the Department of Sport and Exercise at the Southern Institute of Technology, a lecturer at the Christchurch College of Education, a physical education and health advisor in Canterbury and Southland, a secondary teacher, a Head of Department in Dance, and a primary school teacher with positions in various schools.

I actively engage in opportunities to advance The Arts and Physical Education and Health in schools and participate in community physical activity, leisure and cultural pursuits. I am currently supporting teachers of a Southland primary school exploring the impact of targeted professional development of the New Zealand Curriculum in primary Physical Education. My current research is with a national group focusing on Physical Education in primary schools.

My teaching at UOCE focuses on primary education in the curriculum areas of Physical Education, Health, Dance, Drama, Visual Arts and Maths. I also conduct Subject Studies in Visual Art, Children in Action and have been involved in Secondary Physical Education.
