This programme prepares graduates to teach in the primary and intermediate sector, Years 1 to 8 (children ranging in age from 5-13 years). Papers within this programme address professional teaching issues, subject knowledge, education theory, practical teaching experience and the requirements of the New Zealand curriculum. A range of subject studies are available from which you can choose, to develop in-depth knowledge in selected subject areas and specialisation to enrich teaching in a chosen field.

♦ Programme must include Subject Studies papers worth a total of at least 54 points selected from EDUC and/or EDSU papers and/or papers from other approved disciplines or subjects.
♦♦ A primary student wishing to focus on early years schooling, may at the end of year two substitute EDUC 311 Contemporary Understandings of Young Children as Learners for EDUC 335 Construction of Learning in Education Settings and may also substitute EDCR 301 Living Curriculum for EDCR 332 Curriculum Pedagogy and Content, with approval of the Programme Coordinator.
Note: EDCR 332 Curriculum Pedagogy and Content – students will select two areas for in-depth study from EDCR 132 Introduction to The Arts & Science or EDCR 232 Introduction to Social Studies, Technology, Health & Physical Education.
