Dr Barrie Peake is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Chemistry and is an environmental chemist with a particular research interest in natural aquatic systems. He is currently involved in a number of aquatic projects including the study of the discharge of petroleum products via stormwater into the Otago Harbour; the interaction of marine algal toxins and trace metals; chemical aspects of NZ rain; and nitrate levels in the Leith catchment and the Taieri plains. This research has involved him with staff from a number of regional councils, the Dunedin City Council and the Department of Conservation. He has also been the Minister for the Environment's representative in a number of hearings for Special Resource Consents under the Resource Management Act (1991).
