Call for Papers
Call for Papers is now closed.
Abstracts for individual papers or joint submissions for pre-constituted panels (of up to three speakers) are welcomed on any of the conference themes listed below. The Executive Committee also welcomes other theme suggestions (please send enquiries to fhaanz2008@otago.ac.nz).
Abstracts of between 150 - 200 words (in Microsoft Word or RTF format) should be sent via email on or before April 4, 2008 to fhaanz2008@otago.ac.nz.
Please include the following information on your abstract:
Please download Paper/Panel Proposal Template (48k in MS Word format).
- Title of paper or panel
- Author(s) and/or panellists, and a contact email address
- Three to four keywords
- Please include a short (maximum 100 words) bio.
NOTE: Please indicate how you want your names to appear on name tags and in the programme schedule; please also specify your SURNAME in capital letters.
Notification of acceptances will be emailed in May 2008.
Topics
Topics for the 2008 conference include, but are not limited to:
- History & development of film and television criticism
- Fiction film as historical document
- The extent and nature of interdisciplinary research in contemporary film and television studies
- History / Cinema and the Comic Spirit
- Transnational feminist auteurs
- Film's 'Other Histories' (performance, cinematography, editing, production/costume/set design, local film, indigenous film, etc.)
- Australian and New Zealand auteurs
- Philosophy of the film archive
- History & visual media and their interactions with national identity and public memory.
Panels proposed to date
- Panel proposed on Cinematography and Aesthetic Theory – the 'painted screen' (art history focus)
- Panel proposed on Music and Sound in relation to film
- Panel proposed on Fashion / Costume Design on film, and its history
- Panel proposed on 'New Zealand film in the UK'.
