Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Food Science

Otago Food Science graduates possess a deep, coherent and extensive knowledge of Food Science, are are ready to apply it to solving food industry problems.

The Food Science major programme for the Bachelor of Science degree covers  food product development, advanced food chemistry and food processing, and can be tailored to include food microbiology, sensory science, food policy and consumer food science.

Otago also offers Food Science as a minor option for many undergraduate degrees.

Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Agricultural Innovation

Agricultural Innovation is about the major issues in agriculture that impact food production, security, safety and quality. Otago's Agricultural Innovation BSc programme is designed to produce graduates with specialist but diverse skills for a career in agriculture or the rural sector.

The teaching programme is primarily science-focused but also incorporates social, environmental, and economic aspects of agriculture, including traditional and contemporary Māori agriculture and mātauranga Māori.

Agricultural Innovation is also offered as a minor subject option for several undergraduate degrees at Otago.

Consumer Food Science

No new enrolments will be accepted for the Bachelor of Applied Science in Consumer Food Science from 2024.

Prospective students who are interested in consumer food science are encouraged to get in touch with the Department of Food Science to discuss study options.
