NZ Science & Technology Post Doctoral Fellowships

Foundation for Research, Science and Technology Scholarships for PEOPLE

Post-Doctoral Fellowships Scheme

The NZ Science & Technology Post-Doctoral Fellowships Scheme provides early career support for New Zealand scientists, engineers and social scientists of outstanding talent, for post-doctoral research either locally or overseas, in universities, research organisations, or businesses. Applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of New Zealand, or citizens of Australia.

The scheme encourages New Zealanders who have recently completed doctoral degrees overseas to return to New Zealand, and those who have completed doctoral degrees in New Zealand to work overseas, including in countries where few science contacts exist at present.

Fellows will be selected on the basis of their academic records, the scientific excellence of the proposed research and the fit to the intent and purpose of the scheme. Fellowships tenable in New Zealand will normally have a maximum value of $72,000 (including GST) per year; the stipend is currently $50,000 with the balance available to cover financial support for the research and a contribution to the direct costs incurred by an organisation hosting a Fellow.

Fellowships tenable in overseas countries will pay a stipend and have an overall value that reflects costs of working in the particular country, as determined by the Foundation.
