Scholarships
There are various scholarships available for postgraduate study. If you don't already have funding, the university offers a limited number of scholarships for Masters and PhD students, up to $25,000 p.a. for a prestigious Otago PhD scholarship.

Communicate with potential supervisors; some of them may have funding or know where to find additional funding.
Another site worth checking out for scholarships is http://www.nzvcc.ac.nz. There are also scholarships available for travel to conferences and to learn techniques applicable to your research.

RNA Bioinformatics
The Regulatory Genomics Laboratory has a PhD project and stipend available for a student with computational and genetic skills.
The stipend is funded by the International Human Frontier Science Program.

The University of Otago, Christchurch also offer genetics research and training opportunities by way of summer studentships for the Bachelor of Biomedical Sciences (BBiomedSci) programme and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).
PhD Scholarship - Discovering genes that control flowering in onion
The aim of this project is to use high-throughput sequencing and molecular-genetic approaches to identify and characterise genes involved in controlling onion flowering.
This project is part of a collaborative research programme with Dr Richard Macknight Biochemistry Department and Dr John McCallum Plant & Food Research Ltd, Lincoln and is funded by FRST.
