Domestic fee status for French and German postgrads
7th August 2009
In the recent Budget (28 May), the NZ Government removed the domestic fees eligibility for French and German postgraduate students (below PhD level).
Students already here studying for a PGDip or Masters can continue paying domestic fees for the minimum time it would normally take to complete their programme.
Transition arrangements have also been put in place to ensure those students whose applications were being processed at the time of the announcement will not be adversely affected.
All potentially affected students (including those already on campus and those whose applications were submitted prior to the Budget announcement) are currently being contacted by staff from International Office.
The change in policy means that the University can no longer enrol French and German students as domestic fee-paying students in postgraduate programmes below the level of PhD - they must enrol as international fee-paying students.
If you have a specific student's case you would like to enquire about, please contact Paula McLeod, Manager International Admissions paula.mcleod@otago.ac.nz.
Please also check all departmental and divisional websites and other promotional materials that may refer to French and German postgrads being able to study at Otago for domestic fees, and ensure that information is updated.
Note that this does not apply to the domestic fee status of international PhD students.
If you have any questions with regard to what should be included on websites or other materials, please contact Wayne Angus, Manager International Marketing & Liaison wayne.angus@otago.ac.nz.
Regards
Professor Sarah Todd
Pro-Vice-Chancellor (International)
