Investigating the future of drugs and the impact of chemicals on the environment

Pharmacology is all about how drugs work, what they do and why they do it. Pharmacologists study diseases and how we can use drugs to treat them, while toxicologists are involved in studying everything from cancer to environmental toxins.

During this module, you will get to experience what it's like to be a pharmacologist. We'll learn whether caffeine can actually make you smarter and perform some “drug discovery” by investigating the anti-cancer properties of plants in our environment.

We'll finish off the week by testing your investigation skills as an environmental toxicologist. You will determine what is polluting our waters and assess whether these could have toxic effects on the species living in them.
