She is a public health physician and epidemiologist, involved in teaching epidemiology in the Department. She has 15 years' experience in public health research that has largely focussed on the health effects of alcohol, injury prevention, and sexual and reproductive health. She has recently completed an assessment of the "Alcohol-attributable burden of disease and injury in New Zealand" with Robyn Kydd and international collaborators.

Current research interests include a programme of work on alcohol use and health effects in university students with Professor Kyp Kypri and Dr Kimberly Cousins, and reproductive and sexual health in the Dunedin Multidisciplinary Health and Development Study with Associate Professor Nigel Dickson.
