Film screening of ‘Denial’ and an interview with Prof Sir Richard Evans

Film screening of ‘Denial’ and an interview with Prof Sir Richard Evans

The Department of History and Art History at the University of Otago is proud to offer a free screening of Denial, preceded by a brief Q&A with Professor Sir Richard J. Evans, Regius Professor Emeritus of History, Cambridge.

As the principal expert witness in the libel suit brought by David Irving against the American academic Deborah Lipstadt in London in 2000, Professor Evans—a world authority on Nazi Germany—is in a unique position to reflect on the trial’s depiction in the movie Denial, released to worldwide acclaim earlier this year. The trial’s key issues of truth and falsehood, freedom of speech, and history and memory are more urgent than ever in today’s ‘post-truth’ world.
